THE GREEN ROOF SPECIALISTS

Biodiverse Roofs

Biodiverse roofs are a more cost effective way of bringing life to an otherwise barren roof. They should reflect the plant life of the area and use as much recycled material as possible.  Biodiverse roofs are sometimes called brown roofs although there are differences between the two.

Brown roofs are usually left to self-colonise so a local ecosystem can develop.   A biodiverse roof may be seeded or planted to help establish these species, also piles of logs, rocks or wet areas could be installed to encourage local wildlife to colonise the roof.

The benefits of these roofs are much the same as green roofs whilst being more cost effective, although biodiverse and brown roofs take a little more time and a little more maintenance before they are completely established.

Biodiverse roofs can be particularly useful in re-establishing species lost to

construction as the roofs can be tailored specifically to the area, with local plants and wildlife being encouraged.

Evergreen Roof Gardens are able to provide seeding and planting plans tailored for anywhere in the UK.
